23rd of September, 2020...

... was a historic day when Bethlen Castle began its transformation into new attire, adorned with surprises, challenges, and successes. For the Multinvest Group team, this represents a crucial opportunity and honor integral to their professional and personal development.

The surprises emerged early on, in the initial days of the project, revealing that moisture and water infiltration had inflicted significant damage on both the interior and exterior walls. The roof structure and facade elements were also severely compromised. Carpentry work suffered from deterioration, primarily due to aging materials and a lack of maintenance. The improvement process commenced after identifying all damages and deterioration.

The works unfolded in four chronological groups. The first interventions were emergency measures involving the demolition and reconstruction of masonry elements with major deterioration to ensure the building's survival. This was followed by the renovation process, aimed at strengthening the structure, and subsequent phases included conservation (halting structural deterioration) and restoration (returning the historic building to its original historical period).

Welcome to Bethlen Castle!

In the 16th century, the Bethlen Castle, located in Bahnea, underwent a comprehensive renovation and has now become one of the most beautiful attractions in the area with its well-maintained surroundings. The restoration of the castle was supported by the Hungarian government, and the inauguration ceremony took place on October 28. The castle is now owned by the Transylvanian Reformed Church District and runs as a community space. It is under the care of the Women's Association and hosts a permanent exhibition about Transylvanian noble families, as well as Árva Bethlen Kata, a writer (1700 – 1759) born in the castle who became an iconic figure among the Reformed community. In addition, the castle offers various services and aims to promote cultural tourism in the region, as well as to educate visitors about history.
